Sustainable Travel

I have the best job in the world…. I’m a travel writer. I get to go to amazing, undiscovered places and tell the world about them. But this also means I have the worst job in the world. Well, because I have to tell people about these places, and, in a certain sense, ruin the pristine nature of these incredible sights, attractions, cities, national parks, wide open spaces, jungles and mountainsides. The rise in tourism also means that I’m playing an integral part in the transformation and destruction of many at-risk cultures and languages, as well as delicate ecosystems. Shoot, as I hop on a plane to head down to the Amazon Basin or up to Alaska’s Seward Peninsula, I’m even playing a big role in global warming.

But, in my heart, I know that I am still working toward good, and that travel – if done right – is something that benefits both society and the environment. In the upcoming days, I’ll reveal my takes on sustainable travel.
